The International English Language Testing System (IELTS), is designed to assess the language ability of people who want to study or work where English is the language of communication. IELTS is recognised and accepted by over 9,000 organisations worldwide, including universities, employers, professional bodies, immigration authorities and other government agencies.

IELTS is available in two test versions: Academic – for people applying for higher education or professional registration, and General Training for those migrating to New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the UK, or applying for secondary education, training programmes and work experience in an English-speaking environment. Both versions provide a valid and accurate assessment of the four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Our IELTS course helps you to achieve your target score, pinpoint your weaknesses and improve within as short a time as possible.

You need to have at least an Intermediate level of English to join our IELTS course; you will be given the chance to start with our General English programme then move onto the IELTS preparation course at a later stage once you reach the required level

After completing your course, you’ll be able to:

  • Write with improved coherence and cohesion
  • Skim advanced reading texts to identify text type, purpose, audience, gist and individual main ideas
  • Understand and use speed reading skills
  • Identify meaning from context when reading
  • Locate specific detail swiftly when reading
  • Identify text type, purpose, audience, gist and individual main ideas when listening
  • Listen for both main idea and detail
  • Understand various question types and engage processes to effectively deal with them when reading or listening

To be enrolled into our IELTS class, the students should meet all of the following criteria.


New students

  1. Must achieve over Intermediate level on Aspiring’s placement grammar test
  2. Must pass an Interview test
  3. Must be able to complete writing test with a satisfactory result
  4. Is planning to take an IELTS test

Alternatively, if the your level is lower than the required to join the course, you will start in the General English course.

Please note that  If you have taken the IELTS test and have achieved an overall band of 5.0, you will be exempt from the grammar and writing tests; however, the test result must be no older than 1 year (12 months)


Current Students

  1. Must be studying at a higher than Level 4 (Intermediate)
  2. Require current tutor’s recommendation/approval
  3. Must be able to complete a writing test with a satisfactory mark (Available only on Fridays)
  4. Must pass an Interview (Available only on Fridays)
  5. Is planning to take an IELTS test
